Teaching Elementary Mathematics with Educational Robotics

Current education reforms call for engaging students in learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) an integrative way. This critical case study of one fourth grade teacher investigated the use educational robots (ER) not only teaching coding, but as instructional support mathematical concepts. To teachers coding logical manner, our team developed Collective Argumentation Learning Coding (CALC) approach. The CALC approach consists three elements: choice task, content, argumentation. After a cohort elementary completed professional development course, we followed them into their classrooms to document implementation Data this consisted video recordings two lessons, Pre-interview, Post-interview after each lesson. Research questions included: How does (integrative STEM approach) teach concepts with ER? What are teacher’s perspectives towards ER using approach? Results from provide evidence that can successfully integrate curriculum without losing coherence topics while remaining sensitive students’ needs.
